Where it makes the most difference
The first hours in a new country, when you need a ride, a map and a way to tell someone you arrived. Overland routes through several countries, where a local SIM per border is a real cost in time. Coverage, honestly
Cities and main roads are generally 4G. Rural coverage varies a lot between countries and can drop to 3G or nothing. Check the country list above before you count on data in a national park.
Registration rules
SIM registration is common across the continent, and in several countries it is enforced strictly, including biometric capture. All of it applies to local lines from local carriers.
A travel eSIM roams on partner networks. There is no local line, so there is no registration, no form and no photo of your passport in a shop. We hold the order and the ICCID, nothing else.
