Is your phone eSIM-compatible? The 2026 device list
Nothing kills a trip faster than buying a travel eSIM, landing abroad, and finding out your phone can't install it. Two minutes now saves that headache. Here's how to know for sure — and the catch most "compatibility lists" skip.
The 30-second check
Three ways, fastest first:
- Dial *#06#. If you see an EID number (alongside the IMEI), your phone has eSIM hardware.
- iPhone — Settings → Cellular / Mobile Data → look for "Add eSIM" or "Add Data Plan."
- Android — Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → "Add eSIM" / "Download a SIM instead?"
If the option is there, you're good. Hardware beats any list.
The quick answer
If your phone is a flagship from 2019 or later, it almost certainly supports eSIM. The exceptions are specific — region variants and carrier locks — and we cover them below. But run the check above: it's the truth for your exact device.
eSIM-compatible devices (2026)
- Apple iPhone — XS, XR and newer. US iPhone 14 and later are eSIM-only.
- Samsung Galaxy — S20 and newer, Note 20+, Z Fold / Z Flip series, some A-series.
- Google Pixel — Pixel 3 and newer (a few early / region exceptions).
- Others — Motorola Razr, recent Sony Xperia, Oppo Find, Huawei P40+, Honor Magic. Varies by model/region.
This isn't exhaustive — makers add eSIM to more mid-range phones every year. When in doubt, the *#06# check is the truth.

The phones that secretly can't
Here's what generic lists miss:
- Mainland-China iPhones. Apple ships China models with dual physical SIM and no eSIM. A phone bought in China may not work even if the same model elsewhere does.
- Some China / Hong Kong Android variants. Region versions of Samsung and others can omit eSIM hardware.
- Carrier-locked phones. A locked phone may refuse eSIMs from other providers until it's unlocked.
- Older budget phones. Many sub-flagship models before ~2020 skipped eSIM entirely.
If you bought your phone abroad or it's carrier-tied, check before you travel — not after you land.

Once you've confirmed
You're set. Buy your plan, install the eSIM before you fly (scan the QR on Wi-Fi), and keep your physical SIM for calls if you want dual-SIM. With Cypher eSIM there's no account and no ID — pick a country, pay in crypto, scan, done.
The whole compatibility question comes down to one dial code: *#06#. See an EID, and you're ready to travel light.
FAQ
How do I find my EID?
Dial *#06# or check Settings → General / About. The EID sits near your IMEI.
Can I use an eSIM and a physical SIM at once?
Yes — most eSIM phones are dual-SIM: physical for calls, eSIM for data.
My phone supports eSIM but won't add one — why?
Usually a carrier lock. Unlock it with your original carrier, then retry.
Will a China-model iPhone work?
Often not — those ship without eSIM. Check *#06# for an EID to be sure.
See an EID and you're ready to travel light — no SIM trays, no counters, no ID. Don't see one? Sort it before you fly, not after you land.
